Growing-up in the culturally challenged Central Valley of California (Fresno), Bernstein seemed like a mythological, towering Titan! Now in my Mid-Life, having lived in 2 American Cities with Incredible classical music scenes - NYC, and Philly...with time in Berlin, Prague and Lisbon , I am much more seasoned in terms of Conductors, and Orchestras - and yet, some of "Lenny's" 60's and 70's recording still move me deeply. The Schubert "Unfinished" is one, as well as his cycle of Stravinsky's ballets. Very satisfied with this particular recording! - the tempo is relaxed, and luxuriant. Perfection!

I listened to this album from start to finish many times. The best horn playing as far as technique is concerned! Iconic and legendary to say the least. Thank you Mr Tuckwell for inspiring the next generation of horn players to play as well as you do. I myself have been playing for 23 years and came across this in my first few years of learning and this left the greatest impression on me and still does quite fondly. His sound is so clear and precise. Such a sweet and light color too especially in the upper registers.

The harpsichord was/is a mechanical lute. Quills pluck the strings. If an orchestral score contains a piano part, it is placed with the percussion instruments since hammers striking the strings produce its sounds. The pedals on a piano, permitting duration of the struck sound were a 19th century innovation facilitating the development of melody in itself, a focus in particular of the Romantic Era composers on keyboard.

For many years I have loved and enjoyed listening to Bach‘s Partitas, thanks to many excellent interpreters. But I had never before experienced and discovered in such a way the utmost beauty, for example, of the Allemande of this Partita 1 until I heard this Scott Ross version, that allows not just to pass thru a beautifully designed place with beautiful flowers, but to be blessed by their scent and sublime arrangement, to be enlightened by the artistry and love and tenderness in Bach‘s poetry.

Boring: Too repetitive in the beginning and the rest is boring

Radu Lupu’s “voice” is absolutely essential to my canon of Brahms interpreters….the various artists give a kaleidoscopic image of Brahms’ mind….very powerful and delicate, with delicacy that approaches that of Schubert’s works. Of which Lupu is also a master!
